UIC RAILS
UIC rails are standardized railway rails developed by the International Union of Railways. They are widely used in railway systems around the world. Among them, UIC54 and UIC60 are the most common types, also known as 54E1 and 60E1 rails. Both types meet the European standard EN 13674-1.
UIC rails have an I-shaped cross section, offering good ductility, high fatigue strength, and moderate fracture toughness. This ensures long-term stability under heavy loads and frequent use. According to the EN 13674-1 standard, UIC rails are suitable for tracks with a weight of 46 kg per meter or more. They are available in 9 pearlitic steel grades, with a hardness range from 200 HBW to 440 HBW.
UIC Rail main models
| Type of Rail | Dimensions mm | Steel Grade | Weight(Kg/m) | |||
| Rail height/A | Bottom Width/F | Head Width/C | Web Thickness/t | |||
| 54E1 (UIC54) | 159 | 140 | 70 | 16 | R200 / R260 / R260Mn / R300HT | 54.77 |

Material
UIC rails are commonly made from materials include R200, R260, R260Mn, and R350HT, each offering different mechanical properties to meet various operational needs. All UIC rails are manufactured through the hot rolling process, which ensures accurate dimensions and uniform internal structure.
The rail length can be customized upon the request, typically between 6 and 25 meters. Additional processing services like drilling and cutting are available. To extend service life and improve resistance to corrosion, the rail surface can be treated with sandblasting followed by painting or galvanizing, making it suitable for a wide range of demanding environments.
Applications of UIC Rail
UIC rail is widely used in heavy-duty railway systems, especially in high-speed and freight rail networks. It is commonly applied in:
- National railway lines and metro systems
- High-speed passenger routes (e.g., in France and Germany)
- Freight railways requiring high axle load capacity
- Industrial and mining transport lines
Thanks to its high strength and wear resistance, UIC rail is an ideal solution for railway operators seeking long service life and reliable performance under demanding conditions.
