Rail Fasteners
Rail fasteners are essential components in railway track system. Their primary role is to secure the rail to the sleeper or baseplate, maintain proper gauge, and resist longitudinal and lateral forces caused by train movement. The reliability and durability of rail fasteners directly affect the safety, performance, and maintenance cycle of railway systems.
Glory Track supplies a comprehensive range of rail fasteners including rail spikes, track bolts, and elastic rail clips, Whether for heavy-haul railway lines, mining tracks, or urban transit systems, our fastening systems are designed to meet the demands of various rail environments and international standards.
Types of Rail Fasteners
Rail Spikes
Rail spikes are traditional fasteners used to secure rails, particularly on timber sleepers, by driving through the base plate into the sleeper. There are two main types: dog spikes and screw spikes. Dog spikes are typically hammered directly into wooden sleepers, offering a simple and intuitive installation method. Screw spikes, in contrast, use a threaded design and are fastened by tightening a nut, which provides a more secure and adjustable hold on the rail.
Material: Q235 Carbon steel, alloy steel, typically heat-treated
Coating: Black oxide, zinc plating, hot-dip galvanizing
Features: Rail spikes serve the same function as rail clips—to securely fasten the rail and prevent displacement. They have a simple structure, are easy to install and maintain, and offer a cost-effective solution for rail fastening, especially on timber sleeper tracks.
Application: Mining rail, narrow-gauge track, timber-sleeper sidings.
Spikes provide a simple but effective fastening method, although they are less suitable for concrete sleepers or high-speed applications due to limited vibration resistance.
Rail Bolts
Rail bolts are essential for joining rails and fastening baseplates, especially on concrete or steel sleepers.
Types: Fish bolts, T bolts, anchor bolts, square/hex bolts, chemical bolt, etc.
Material: 4.6/8.8/10.9 grade steel
Coating: Black oxide, zinc plating, hot-dip galvanizing, black painting
Application:Turnouts, joints, mainline tracks, crane rail systems, urban railway projects, mining tracks, etc.
Due to their precise torque control and strength, bolts are widely used in both conventional and special rail applications.
Elastic Rail Clips
Elastic rail clips are spring-based fasteners commonly used with concrete sleepers. Their function is to apply continuous clamping force to the rail while allowing limited movement for load adjustment and vibration damping.
Types: Type I, Type II, Type III, Type W (based on common classifications in Chinese rail fastening systems)
Material: 60Si2MnA or 55Si2Mn spring steel
Advantages:
Elasticity maintains force over long-term use
Quick installation and removal
Better dynamic behavior under heavy traffic
Surface Treatment: Red oxide, black oxide, or epoxy coating
Application: Metro systems, high-speed rail, mainline railways
Elastic clips are standard in modern ballasted and slab track systems and suitable for both straight and curved sections.
