High Temperature Rail Replacement for Industrial Furnace

Deformed and discolored high temperature rail track due to heat oxidation inside industrial furnace.

Project Background

A furnace equipment manufacturer contacted us after noticing serious oxidation and deformation on their existing A100 rails.
The rails operated under continuous temperatures above 600°C, where ordinary carbon steel gradually lost strength and surface stability. This affected the alignment of the furnace trolley and increased maintenance downtime.

High Temperature Rail Material Assessment

At such high temperatures, most standard rail materials are not suitable.
Even 16Mo3, a commonly used heat-resistant alloy steel, starts losing mechanical strength above 500°C.
For stable performance in high-temperature but low-load conditions, austenitic stainless steel is preferred due to its excellent oxidation resistance.

Glory Track Solution

After evaluating the operating environment, we supplied custom-processed 310S stainless steel rails for the furnace system.
310S provides:

  • Reliable oxidation resistance up to 800°C
  • Good thermal stability during heating and cooling cycles
  • Excellent corrosion resistance in oxidizing atmospheres

Since 310S has lower yield strength compared with carbon steel, it was used in non-load-bearing sections of the furnace, ensuring both temperature endurance and structural safety.

Our machining process included:

  • Precision cutting and finishing to match the existing track layout
  • Surface treatment to improve heat expansion tolerance
  • Dimensional and weld-fit inspection before shipment

Result

The new rails have operated stably at 600–700°C, showing no signs of oxidation or deformation after long-term use.
The furnace trolley runs smoothly, and maintenance requirements have been significantly reduced.

Conclusion

In high-temperature applications above 600°C, material selection is the key factor in ensuring long-term performance.
Glory Track provides tailored high temperature rail solutions using materials such as 310S stainless steel and heat-resistant alloys to meet the demanding conditions of furnace and industrial heating systems.
